On August 27, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Armen Simonyan received a delegation headed by Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, Chairman of the Board of Directors of South Caucasus Railways CJSC Vyacheslav Pavlovsky. The Russian Railways delegation included General Director of South Caucasus Railways CJSC Alexey Melnikov, representatives of Russian Railways, South Caucasus Railways and the Russian Embassy.
At the beginning of the meeting, Armen Simonyan thanked Vyacheslav Pavlovsky for the professional work done by the railway workers to quickly restore the railway, which was damaged by the flooding of the Debed River in May.
During the meeting, a number of issues related to changes and additions to the concession agreement were discussed, with a number of provisions agreed upon. The interlocutors also noted the need to implement measures aimed at improving the operation of the railway.
Let us recall that CJSC "SCR" is a 100% subsidiary of JSC "Russian Railways". On February 13, 2008, in Yerevan, JSC "Russian Railways" and the Republic of Armenia signed a concession agreement on the transfer of the republic's railway transport system to the management of CJSC "SCR". According to the agreement, the concession management period is 30 years with the right to extend it for another 10 years after the first twenty years of operation by mutual agreement of the parties. The tasks of CJSC "SCR" include the modernization of the RA railway infrastructure, the development of cooperation with states neighboring Armenia, the development of domestic and international passenger and freight traffic. The amount of investment carried out by the Company is $572 million. CJSC "SCR" began its activities on June 1, 2008.
