The amount of precipitation that fell in Armenia in July of this year exceeded the norm for this month by more than 190%. This was stated in a message from the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia.
The average amount of precipitation observed in July in Armenia was 84.4 mm, which is the seventh largest since 1935 and the highest since July 1965. Rainfall was observed in all three decades of the month. At the same time, the amount of precipitation was relatively scanty in the second ten-day period of July, and the most abundant in the third ten-day period.
The air temperature in July was within the normal range. The monthly precipitation was above the norm in most of the republic, the precipitation in the Ararat Valley, Tavush and Gegharkunik in some places exceeded the norm by 2-3 times. On some days, heavy rains were observed in Tavush, Lori and Kotayk regions, where 30-44 mm of precipitation fell in a few hours.
Despite the rainy July this year, the analysis of precipitation over many years (1935-2024) shows that precipitation in Armenia decreases in the summer season, including July.
